The Rooftop Cafe
I had the opportunity to shoot a commercial property in Key West last week. The Rooftop Cafe. It was a bit sad for me because it had been my Mom’s favorite restaurant and we would always make it a stop when we were in Key West for Cuban Mix Sandwiches. The fans are not spinning because the power was off. Talk about a hot shoot…Key West in August in a closed building with the power off. To quote Cosmo Kramer, "It was like a sauna in there!"

Zion Primitive Baptist Church
Erected by former slaves in 1867, the Zion Primitive Baptist Church was rebuilt in 1911. The African American congregation closed its doors in the 1970’s and the current owner converted it to a single-family home in 1983. Elementary architectural features attest to its ecclesiastical origins. The corner steeple, double-door entrance, and pointed-arch windows reflect its Carpenter Gothic style.

Iberia Bank Building
Have you ever been in locked in an empty bank all alone? I have! It was one of the creepiest shoots I’ve been on so far. While I was there, an unmarked box truck pulled in and then left. Then the police came and left, but nobody tried to enter or knocked or anything the whole time I was there. Rumor has it, it is being renovated to become a restaurant. I bet somebody really misses that corner office, what a view!
